The Many Odd Origins of EVEN STEVEN

Created by Karl Kesel

You missed the EVEN STEVEN Kickstarter? That's just NOT FAIR! Luckily, you can still get all your EVEN STEVEN (and IMPOSSIBLE JONES) stuff right here!

Latest Updates from Our Project:

More Drawings! PLUS A SURPRISE!
7 months ago – Thu, Jul 31, 2025 at 07:06:50 AM

I've been busy…

All 3 are on 8.5x11 Strathmore 500-series board (The Surfboard one was drawn in landscape format). All 3 are $150 each. All 3 are available as ADD-ONS— NOW!

To get one, click MANAGE YOUR PLEDGE, click though your options (keeping your original pledge), when you get to ADD-ONS, scroll down until you see the drawing you want. GRAB IT! (They won't last long… at least, that's what I'm hoping!)

(NOTE: I hear you can't access ADD-ONS on your phone. No idea why. It seems you have to use a tablet, laptop, or desktop computer.)

ADDED BONUS: If you're the first to get one of these beauties, you'll also push us past $35K and unlock the cooler-than-they-sound FULL COLOR ENDSHEETS Stretch Goal! (In which case you'll get another Update soon— announcing the NEW Stretch Goal!)

As of today, we have 1 WEEK left in our EVEN STEVEN Kickstarter! As long as these 3 drawings find good homes, I'll try to do 4 more before the end of the run. Giving EVEN STEVEN "Secret Weapons" from across comics and pop culture has been a ton of fun! As long as you want 'em, I'll keep doing 'em!

In the meantime…

Did Someone Say "CROSSOVER PRINT"?

The terrific TANGO has drawn the ever-enigmatic EVEN STEVEN meeting LILLIAN and ALECK from WHITE ASH!

I'm sure you know all about WHITE ASH already— how it's the name of a mining town in Pennsylvania populated by a lot of Elves and Dwarves, where Bad Stuff happens, created by CHARLIE STICKNEY and CONOR HUGHES; one of the GREAT comics to come out of Kickstarter— but what you might not know is there's a Kickstarter for the latest WHITE ASH ANNUAL going on RIGHT NOW!

In the ANNUAL, Charlie and Connor do their usual magic, but they also let other people play in their sandbox to create four fantastic tales set anywhere from present day to the far past! (I'm particularly looking forward to Brian Studler, Mick Beyers and Vittorio Astone's 1950s "fantasy noir" starring a P.I. named GREGSON.)

Support both WHITE ASH and EVEN STEVEN— Get The Crossover Print for FREE!

Simple as that. But you better HURRY because the WHITE ASH ANNUAL campaign ENDS WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 6, with EVEN STEVEN ending the day after that, on August 7.

You know what time it is?

That's right— it's clobberin' time.

BTW: The Crossover Prints will be sent out with the EVEN STEVEN book. In case you're wondering.

LO! There shall be… T-SHIRTS!
8 months ago – Mon, Jul 28, 2025 at 11:03:15 AM

I couldn't wait any longer! So as of RIGHT NOW, there are EVEN STEVEN T-SHIRTS available as an ADD-ON!

I came up with the basic layout— I wanted a lot of ES's "dark side" to blend into the black background of the shirt, so everything had to be positioned just soDAVID HAHN made it look the coolest, then colorist RYAN CODY knocked it out of the park by choosing bold, almost black-light colors! (I never saw that coming! But I LOVED it!)

BTW: Not the first time Ryan has taken an amazing drawing by David and made it ABSOLUTELY STUNNING!

If you want one— and who wouldn't, really?— click on MANAGE YOUR PLEDGE, re-choose your existing pledge, and when you get to ADD-ONS, scroll down until you see the EVEN STEVEN T-SHIRTS in various sizes.

I'm hoping to sell at least 25 of these to break… even (so to speak). Any less, it comes out of my pocket. Any more, we actually have a little more money to #MakeEvenStevenEvenBetter.

Okay. Go do your thing.

And THANK YOU for supporting EVEN STEVEN!

EVEN (More) STEVEN Drawings by KARL KESEL!
8 months ago – Fri, Jul 25, 2025 at 02:48:47 PM

Since the response to my first EVEN STEVEN "sketches" was so overwhelmingly positive, I decided to do some more…

…but these are full-scale DRAWINGS— 8.5 x 11 inch, pencilled and inked by Yours Truly.

It occurred to me that since ES can create any weapon he needs, why not draw him creating various FAMOUS WEAPONS from comics, film and TV? And so, without further ado…

Given that these drawings are 200% larger than my previous "Sketches"— with proportionally more attention and detail put into them— they are priced accordingly at $150 each.

All four are currently available as ADD-ONS.

As usual, YOU (as someone who has already supported EVEN STEVEN) know about this before anyone else.

If any (or all) of these remain unclaimed by Saturday morning (July 26th), I will let the general public know, and let the chips fall where they may.

We are clearly in The Doldrums now, with only a few new Backers each day. So any extra help you can give the book right now would certainly stand out, and be double appreciated.

If these drawings are successful, I'd love to continue more in this "SECRET WEAPONS" series. I could see ES with Wolverine's claws, the Blade Runner gun (a favorite of mine!), etc. I'm open to suggestions! Please leave them in the comments.

That's all for now.

NEW STRETCH GOAL!
8 months ago – Mon, Jul 21, 2025 at 06:02:00 AM

YOU DID IT!

Those little sketches I drew and told you about yesterday were snatched up in a New York minute! THANK YOU! I might have to draw up some more…

BUT FIRST: We now have a NEW STRETCH GOAL…

The response to VILLAINOVA has been amazing! You clearly Love/Hate her at first glance— which is as it should be! Can't wait for you to read the story! In the meantime: let's get this GIAN CARLO BERNAL Chibi Sticker in everyone's swag bag!

I'll Need YOUR Help To Do That!

I know I ask you to LIKE, SHARE or POST about EVEN STEVEN whenever possible— and the results are noticeable. I'm no GAIL SIMONE when it comes to being an internet influencer, but when an EVEN STEVEN post gets a couple dozen LIKES or a half dozen SHARES— that's a step up from what most IMPOSSIBLE JONES posts got. So we're doing something right!

Other commitments will keep me away from my computer Monday and Tuesday— meaning I can't shamelessly shill for EVEN STEVEN the way I normally would. I would like to ask YOU to keep the ball rolling by LIKING and/or SHARING any EVEN STEVEN-related post that may have caught your eye. Do this at a few different times of the day, if possible. (Different people are looking at their feed at different times.) Whatever you're comfortable doing.

It may seem like a little thing, but it can make a BIG difference.

Thanks in advance. See you in a couple days…

New ADD-ONS!
8 months ago – Sun, Jul 20, 2025 at 06:29:56 PM

As usual, you get first crack at these…

Inspired by STEVE LIEBER, I sat down and did some "sketches" of my own. Of course, they're really full drawings. In fact, I'll probably go in and tinker with a couple of them a bit more, since there are a few things that bug me…

Please note that each drawing is 4.25 x 5.5 inches— small but mighty!

These are currently available— RIGHT NOW!— as Add-Ons in the EVEN STEVEN Kickstarter. They're $75 EACH. Mostly because I work very slowly, and put far too many hours into these than I should have. But also because if all 4 of these go to good homes…

…We all get SEAN VON GORMAN's excellent EVEN STEVEN Pin-Up added to the book— and open the door to our NEXT Stretch! Which I know will be a very popular item…

I'll be offering these to the Gen Pop very early on Monday the 21st. If any are left unclaimed. Which could well be the case— I'm no STEVE LIEBER or DAVID HAHN.

Or YOU could decide to get all four and prove me wrong…

Elsewhere on Kickstarter…

EVA STRONGBIRD and the MARINE!

The instant I saw DES TAYLOR and ROBB PRATT's Kickstarter, I knew it was for me. World War 2! A masked man on a motorcycle! A beautiful woman with a raygun! Brave beauties fighting Fascism!

The cherry on top: AMAZING ART!

DAMN! I love this stuff!

I guess DES draws retro-cheesecake stuff a lot— including a set of covers for the DC BOMBSHELLS series— and no wonder! He's certainly tapped into what makes that stuff work!

Anyway. I'd strongly recommend you check out EVA STRONGBIRD and the MARINE!I'd love to see them do gangbusters on this Kickstarter…
